Does your moon cycle need taming? Do you find your monthly cycle to be a pain? Do your hormones leave you feeling, tired, overwhelmed and uncomfortable? Do your loved ones suffer along with you? If so these quick tips are for you.

One of the best all purpose essential oil blends that I have found to balance female hormones and bring relief to the unpleasant side effects that can go hand in hand with our monthly cycle is by Young Living. It is appropriately named Dragon Time™. Dragon Time™ is a blend of calming and soothing essential oils, including clary sage, which contains natural phytoestrogens – the perfect choice for women’s emotions during special times and needs. Its balancing properties make it a perfect choice for supporting normal, healthy emotions during the female monthly cycle.

Here are a few other essential oils that are recommended for relief during your cycle.

  • Depression – Clary Sage, Jasmine, Sandalwood, Frankincense and Ylang-Ylang
  • Mood Swings – Lavender, Clary Sage, Ylang-Ylang
  • Anxiety – Lavender, Ylang-Ylang and Peace and Calming
  • Cramps – Lavender, Geranium and Marjoram
  • Body Aches – Marjoram, Valor and Pan Away
  • Headache – Peppermint, Wintergreen and M-Grain
  • Food Cravings – Fennel and Patchouli
  • Bloating – Roman Chamomile, Grapefruit, Juniper and cypress
  • Digestive Issues – Ginger, Peppermint and Roman Chamomile
  • Fatigue – Rosemary, Basil and Grapefruit

Please note: There are 3 main ways to use therapeutic grade essential oil; inhalation, topical application and ingestion. Please see labels for recommended use of these essential oils.

Using essential oils is one of many ways to practice self care during your cycle. I find that slowing down and honoring myself and my cycle brings the sacredness back to this time.

In the week prior and for the first few days of your cycle I recommend slowing down and honoring yourself with these simple steps:

  1. Slow down. Keep your schedule easy and manageable to avoid stress and overwhelm and schedule in plenty of time just for you. Also move your body in gentle ways; replace high intensity exercise with gentle yoga, Thai chi, or walking.
  2. Meditate for 5-30 minutes each morning. Sit down somewhere quiet, close your eyes and breathe. As thoughts or distractions come up just bring your attention back to your breath. You can even use the essential oil meditation I wrote about in last weeks blog “Do You Want to Get High?” with Dragon Time or one of the other recommended oils.
  3. Take a special bath or shower. Make it special by lighting candles, playing soft music and using essential oils. (Only use therapeutic grade essential oils that can be used topically and blend them in bath salt or epsom salt to distribute easily.)
